OH NO MICHELLE OBAMA VISITED A HOMELESS SHELTER

You never call the bullshit double standards that favour women. Hmm, I wonder why.

Google “red herring.” But I’ll coddle you anyway.

There are plenty of double standards that favor women: this is called benevolent sexism (Google this too), and is just as insidious as the traditional kind. Men aren’t served by being portrayed as boors on TV, nor is our current system of dating beneficial for either men or women. Homophobia is awful towards both genders, but I’d argue moreso to men.

I’m curious as to why taking on a pet issue - which to me, is sexism against women - must mean I’m not as concerned about sexism towards men. I am! But: while women are primarily the targets of sexual assault, domestic violence, are more likely to not be educated in developing countries and are still treated as Exoticized “others”, I’m not as worried about teh menz. So really, I’d rather advocate for women first, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worrisome.

Seriously, though - why do you need to be spoonfed? Is the fact that you are part of a group typically privileged over another group that terrifying to you? Is the fact that we live in an unequal world upsetting? You don’t have to feel guilty about it. No one’s asking for reparations. I’m just trying to advocate for change in the sexist assumptions that make up our world - and cut both ways.

What is threatening about that?

JGH, you (used to?) work at People, one of a group of entertainment rags that features, on a regular basis, the intrusive photographing of women. Now, far be it from us to make a tu quoque argument (we’d condescendingly tell you to “Google that”, but actually, we’re not even that bitchy), but is it possible you could step back and analyze the ways that your work actually makes it harder for some women to live their daily lives?
